Ghostbusters was the penultimate movie if you were a kid growing up in the 80s. I was lucky enough to be 6 years old when the movie
first came out, and I still remember my friend Jeremy Silverman telling me about the ghost in the library in the beginning of the movie, which sounded like the coolest thing in the history of the world.
After seeing “Ghostbusters” in the theaters and then getting my Grandpa to tape off HBO, I watched the thing at least a hundred times. I also had a Ghostbusters birthday party, complete with Ghostbusters puzzle books, toys, action figures, and t-shirts.
But one thing was missing… there was no real Ghostbusters Halloween Costumes. No fake proton pack or uniforms with the Ghostubester insignia on the shirt pocket.
A lot has changed in 20 years. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, that is an awesome thing. With Halloween just around the corner (or if you just like costumes in general), then check out these awesome threads.
Ghostbusters Costume with Jumpsuit & Inflatable Back Pack
Alright, I have to admit I was a little disappointed that this Ghostbusters Halloween costume doesn’t come with a fully operation proton pack. In fact, it’s actually inflatable, but it still looks cool.

Ghostbusters Costumes: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
It never occurred to me to dress up as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, but obviously it did to somebody else. This is a combination inflatable/cloth costume that looks pretty dope. You may just terrify Egon beyond the capacity for rational thought, or get lucky. After all, who can resist a 100 foot man made of marshmallow?
And dude, if you are reading this blog and you don’t know who the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is, you best catch up real fast. “WHAT DID YOU DO RAY?”
Other Ghostbusters Innovations Since the 80s
2011 is really a wonderful time to be a filmmaker. Back in the 80s, the special effects in Ghostbusters was considered to be the most cutting edge at the time. And expensive. It took millions of dollars and teams of geeks to get the proton packs and ghost traps to do their thing. But look at what this kid did on his own with just some After Effects, and some imagination.
Finally, for fun, check out this video by Improv Everywhere. These guys do real life stunts that are hysterical. This time, they did a Ghostbusters themed stunt (called “Who Ya Gonna Call?) in the New York Public Library. Make sure to watch until the end!
